Tomas Ujfalusi will captain the Czech Republic at next month's European Championship.
The Fiorentina defender replaces Tomas Rosicky, who said earlier this month he would undergo surgery on his left knee and won't recover for the June 7-29 tournament in Austria and Switzerland.
The 30-year-old Ujfalusi, who has scored two goals in 66 internationals, will captain the team in warm-up matches in Prague against Lithuania on Tuesday and Scotland on Friday.
"It's an honor to captain the national team," Ujfalusi said Tuesday.
Goalkeeper Petr Cech will be Ujfalusi's deputy, the Czech soccer federation said.
The Czechs open on June 7 against Switzerland and also faces Turkey and Portugal in Group A.
