A woman who pleaded guilty to running secret brothels out of spas and tanning salons has been sentenced to 1 1/2 years in federal prison.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Carmen Luege says Jong Ock "June" Mao also was ordered to forfeit her interest in more than $10 million worth of property at a hearing Monday in U.S. District Court in Santa Ana, California.
Mao, a native of Korea, pleaded guilty in July to conspiring to use interstate commerce to promote prostitution and using brothel proceeds to buy real estate. Authorities say Mao operated five brothels in Southern California and ran the Paradise Spa in Dallas.
