Abdul Sani Doli, 23, infuriated fellow drinkers at a singing bar in the town of Sandakan on Eastern Borneo island by refusing to get off the stage, sparking an attack.
The fight then spilled out onto the street and the victim was punched then stabbed to death with a knife. His body was found a short distance from the bar.
Local police chief ACP Rosli Mohd Isa confirmed two men are in police custody helping with enquiries.
