The journal Sleep Medicine reports a 44-year-old woman got out of bed, logged into her email account and sent three emails inviting people for drinks and caviar while asleep.

The first she knew of her unconscious actions was when she was called by one of the invitees the next day.

One mail read: "Come tomorrow and sort this hell hole out. Dinner and drinks, 4.pm,. Bring wine and caviar only."

Another said simply: "What the……."

The report said e-mailing is a complex behaviour requiring coordinated movements which have not been reported before in sleepwalking. The practice has been nicknamed ‘zzz-mailing’.
