Aussies to fight Elsom ban
Australia has appealed against flanker Rocky Elsom's one-match ban, which was handed down by a Sanzar judicial committee on Tuesday.

Elsom was found guilty of tackling Victor Matfield in the air during a line-out in Saturday's Tri Nations Test between Australia and South Africa in Durban.

Elsom had entered a not guilty plea but was overruled by Nick Davidson QC, who headed the judicial committee, after viewing evidence of the incident.

A statement following the verdict read: "Elsom has been suspended from all rugby until Monday, September 1.

"Matfield gave telephonic evidence that he suffered an injury in the incident but completed the game without impediment. Any injury appeared minor and did not influence the decision."

The appeal will be heard by a telephone conference on Thursday with the Wallabies due to play South Africa in Johannesburg on Saturday.
