Headland gone for eight?

13-05-2008 - 14:16
Fremantle's Des Headland will miss six to eight weeks of action after scans showed the midfielder will need surgery on his injured left knee.

Headland met orthopaedic surgeons on Monday and it was determined he would have an arthroscope performed on his knee later this week.

Headland's injury is just another in a long list of setbacks for the Dockers in 2008, with coach Mark Harvey unable to field the same side for consecutive weeks at an stage of this season so far following a bad run with injuries and several undisciplined acts that have cost the Dockers dearly at the Tribunal.

In better news for the Dockers, however, youngster Chris Mayne has signed on with the club until the end of the 2010 season.

Mayne has only played three games since being drafted last year at selection No.40.

He now joins Rhys Palmer and Clayton Hinkley as fellow Fremantle up-and-comers who have been locked away until the end of 2010.

The 19-year-old has averaged 11 possessions a match in the three games he has played since debuting in Round 2 against Hawthorn.

"I was very excited to hear they wanted to put me on for another year," Mayne said on Monday.

"I love coming in here everyday. I wake up in the morning so excited to come to Fremantle."

"With all the guys here, they make you feel so welcome. It makes you feel like you're part of a family – this is my second family."

"You just get that feeling that you're wanted at the club and you just feel so happy and excited about the future," he said.
