NHL veteran Sean Hill has signed to play for Swiss club Biel next season.

Biel said Thursday that Hill signed a one-year contract with the club, which finished first in Switzerland's second division last season and won promotion to the top league through the playoffs.

The 38-year-old defenseman has played 876 regular season games in the NHL since 1992, ending last season in his home state with the Minnesota Wild. He helped the Montreal Canadiens win the 1993 Stanley Cup.

Hill will be joined at the club by Canadian forward David Ling, who played last season with the Toronto Marlies in the American Hockey League.
