New Zealand won the toss and chose to bowl in the fifth and final limited-overs cricket international against the West Indies on Tuesday.
Captain Daniel Vettori had the weather in mind when he made the decision to bowl first on what is traditionally a good batting pitch at McLean Park. Two matches in the series, which is tied at 1-1, have been abandoned because of rain and another reduced to 28 overs per side.
Showers were forecast later Tuesday.
"We have a few concerns about the weather later so for that reason we've decided to bowl first," Vettori said. "It's a good wicket but we want to make the best use of the conditions early on.
"We've chased well here in the past, so in a one-off game we hope we can do that again."
Opener Jesse Ryder, who missed the fourth match in Auckland for disciplinary reasons, returned to the New Zealand lineup Tuesday, displacing Mathew Sinclair. Martin Guptill, who scored 122 not out as an opener in Auckland _ the second highest debut score in limited-overs international history _ dropped to No.3 in the New Zealand order.
The West Indies also made one change, naming Kieron Pollard in place of Nikita Miller.
"We would have liked to bowl but, having said that, it looks a pretty good deck," captain Chris Gayle said.
"Hopefully we can get a good total and put on a bit of pressure."
