Robinson makes it to Olympic team for fifth time
Kayaker Clint Robinson, who has an Olympic medal of each colour from four previous games, was selected again for Beijing after Australian Canoeing re-nominated the same squad that had been subject to appeal.

Luke Michael, who missed selection in the original kayak squad, won an appeal in the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which ordered Australian Canoeing to convene another panel to reconsider the Olympic team nomination.

A five person panel, headed by for Australian Institute of Sports chief John Boultbee, announced Wednesday it had met and would re-nominate the same team for the Beijing Games to the Australian Olympic Committee.

That means 35-year-old Robinson is expected to join Tate Smith, David Smith, Jacob Clear, Tony Schumacher and Ken Wallace on the national team for Beijing.

Australian Canoeing said Michael has the right to further appeal to the CAS, but it was uncertain if the paddler would proceed with action before the deadline at the end of June.

Michael lost an appeal to Australian Canoeing against a perceived bias in the selection of veteran Robinson before appealing his non-selection to the CAS.

The Australian team leaves Thursday for a training camp in Europe before a World Cup meet in Hungary in early June.

Robinson, winner of the K1 over 1,000 meters at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, was picked in March for the Australian team despite having to pull out of the selection trials with a throat infection.

The selectors decided there were extenuating circumstances and chose to nominate Robinson after the final morning of trials at the 2000 Olympic site west of Sydney.

Robinson won a bronze medal in the K1 1,000 at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and a K2 silver in the 500-meter race with Nathan Baggaley in 2004 at Athens.
