Hawthorn's Brad Sewell is in doubt for the Round 15 match against Sydney after undergoing an appendectomy during the week.
Sewell has missed the past four matches with a shoulder injury but was expected to be back for the crucial game against the Swans at the MCG on Sunday July 13. However, he was admitted to hospital on Wednesday suffering stomach pains and was operated on that day.
He had his appendix removed and while he is recovering well and is expected to resume training next week, he may struggle to prove his fitness for the crucial game against the Swans, with clutch games against St Kilda and Geelong to follow.
The tough midfielder is the second Hawthorn player to have his appendix removed this season. Luke Hodge had an appendectomy in May while recovering from a hamstring injury.
Recovery from such an operation can vary from person to person. Geelong's Jimmy Bartel missed the final two home and away matches of 2007, but still won the Brownlow Medal, while Essendon's Ricky Dyson was sidelined for three weeks earlier this season.
