Usain Bolt will run the 200 meters at next week's London Grand Prix in what likely will be the Jamaican sprinter's last race before the Beijing Olympics.
Bolt, the 100-meter world record holder, is concentrating on the longer sprint and promises "something very special" in the July 26 race at Crystal Palace.
He won't be facing sprint rivals Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell, who will be running the 100 in London on July 25. All three runner could face each other in the 100 in Beijing.
"Despite the fact I have been mainly running 100 meters this season, I still see the 200 meters as my best event," Bolt said in a statement Wednesday. "I know I am capable of something very special over the longer distance. I can't wait to get out there and show just what I can do over 200 meters."
Bolt ran the fastest time in the 200 this year, winning in 19.67 seconds Sunday at the Tsiklitiria Athens Grand Prix. The 21-year-old Jamaican is now the fifth fastest man of all time in the 200. Michael Johnson holds the world record of 19.32.
Powell held the 100 record of 9.74 seconds until May 31, when Bolt ran 9.72 at the Reebok Grand Prix in New York.
