TNT Officially Picks Up 'Southland'

'Southland' fans rejoice: Variety is reporting that TNT has officially saved the police drama series from cancellation, and will air a brand new 13-episode season beginning Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 10PM.

The fate of 'Southland' was the subject of much speculation after NBC shockingly pulled the plug on it last month. According to series creator John Welles ('ER'), two networks were interested in picking the show up almost immediately, with TNT emerging as the early frontrunner (the second network was never revealed). In fact, TNT was said to be closing in on a deal as late as last week, although, until today, nothing was official.

Now, in an ironic twist of fate, 'Southland' will compete against 'The Jay Leno Show' at 10PM, a show that some people have blamed for NBC's decision to cancel the critically lauded series.
